- Mia wasn't dating anyone and wasn't interested in any of the guys at work who she figured were only trying to have sex with the summer intern so they could brag to their friends. Seeing their parents weren't home, Mia and Oliver decided to go out to dinner at an inexpensive local restaurant. They talked over dinner about their dream jobs and how they planned on making those dreams come true. Mia wanted to work in business or finance while Oliver wanted to be a programmer or make some serious money programming for video games.
- Eventually, the conversation turned to their social lives with Mia noting Oliver spent too much time with his friends playing video games. He knew that but admitted he was too shy and self-conscious about his weight and nerdy appearance to ask a girl out. He had been teased throughout high school and rejected by girls he asked out so he was reluctant to ask anyone out again. He admitted there was a girl at work he liked but she had a boyfriend.
- Mia had a long-term relationship back at school but they broke up shortly before the end of the semester. She was in no hurry to begin dating anyone while still recovering from her broken heart. Mia told Oliver she'd help him by giving him some advice on women but he'd have to help himself too. If he wanted to lose weight, Mia told him he'd have to change his diet, start exercising, and couldn't sit around all night playing video games. He didn't have to give up everything he liked but would need to do things in moderation.
